The free account supports five people and two projects at a time, with 100MB of storage space for files. There followed seven years of brutal rule by Amin during which it is estimated that between 100,000 and 500,000 people were murdered. By the early seventies, Amin was commander of all the armed forces of Uganda and in 1971 seized power in a military coup, displacing the country’s president Milton Obote. Another widely reported case involved a principal in Potomac, Maryland, who stepped down amidst charges that she had gone through students’ test booklets in the classroom and called them up to change or elaborate on their answers. News & World Report article described a case in Ohio, where one educator is accused of physically moving a student’s pencil-holding hand to the correct answer on a multiple-choice question. For instance, a colleague of mine tells of a principal who would begin each morning’s announcements with a greeting to students, such as, “Good morning students, and salutations! Do you know what a salutation is? It means ‘greeting,’ like the greeting you see at the beginning of a letter.” Students learned the meaning of words like “salutation” from the principal’s daily announcements they probably never learned that his choice of words like “salutation” was done with the vocabulary section of the state-mandated, norm-referenced test in hand. In short, the problem of cheating has spread from the examinees to the examiners.Ĭheating by educators comes in many forms, ranging from the subtle coaching of students to the overt manipulation of test results. But the increasing use of tests to assess the performance of not just students but also teachers, principals, schools, and the education system as a whole has engendered a growing trend: that of educators themselves attempting to subvert accountability systems by artificially inflating student test scores. Thus efforts to ensure test security and the reliability of results focused mainly on detecting and preventing cheating by students. Until recently, the phenomenon of cheating had been limited mainly to test takers. On the fabric, examinees would meticulously inscribe 722 essay responses to likely exam questions. Consider the so-called cribbing garment, an undergarment that was worn by examinees during the administration of civil-service examinations in China more than 1,000 years ago. For as long as there have been tests, there has been cheating.

The few open-source notation applications out there show promise, but tend to be pretty 'niche' and not well documented or supported. The alternative has traditionally been various 'lite'-version, low-cost or DAW-bundled solutions, all of which are inevitably much more limited in scope. These behemoths have not been without their controversies in recent times, too, with company restructuring and product focus shifts eroding confidence in their continued existence in the minds of some users. #Finale printmusic 8vb upgradeMakeMusic's Finale and Avid's Sibelius have traditionally satisfied the needs of both camps, and others besides, but only for a hefty outlay in initial purchase and ongoing upgrade costs. A publisher, by contrast, might not need sounds at all, but instead will demand the ultimate in typographical flexibility and printed output quality. Composers often want great quality sounds and score playback features, for experimenting, developing compositions and producing demos. #Finale printmusic 8vb softwareI've said it before in the hallowed pages of SOS, and I'll say it again here: notation is a funny old business, and what different individuals ask of notation software is amazingly diverse. Version 3 was reviewed in March 2010 ( /sos/mar10/articles/notion3.htm) and the new Notion 4, reviewed here, introduces plenty of further improvements. Dave Stewart looked at an early version of Notion back in the October 2006 issue of Sound On Sound ( /sos/oct06/articles/virtuosoworks.htm) but, as you'd expect, a considerable amount of development has taken place since then. The company are based jointly in North Carolina, USA and London, UK, and were previously known as Virtuoso Works. #Finale printmusic 8vb for macNotion 4 is a notation and score playback application for Mac OS, iPad and Windows, developed by Notion Music. (I posted this in the "wish list" forum by mistake previously in December) I then saved it again as a MID file and imported it into the RealBand, which recognized the duration and gave me the desired audio result. So, how did I get the desired audio effect into RealBand? I went back to Print Music and changed the time signature from 4/4 to 5/4 or 7/4 (for that measure only!) which allowed me to stretch the measure and add duration to the note and thus sustain the pitch. The duration of a note or rest marked by the fermata is arbitrary and controlled by the performer/conductor. I learned that a fermata symbol is merely a graphic symbol. But after I opened RealBand and imported the file, when I played the file the pitch was not sustained. Then saved the file as a MID (midi) file. I created the song in the "Print Music" (a FINALE family of software) with the fermata symbol. The song changes between 3/4 and 4/4 time. I was working on a song that required a fermata. In truth, there is very little software help available when it comes to producing a RAR file on a Mac. #UNZIP RAR FOR MAC FOR MAC#As a result, employing RAR for Mac is uncommon. RAR or Mac lacks user-friendliness because of the command line (Terminal) version. There is no GUI version of WINRAR available for Mac OS. WINRAR is also available for Mac OS, but solely as a command-line programme, as it is for Windows. It does not, however, have built-in capability for unarchiving RAR files. RAR files, on the other hand, have a.rar file extension. It went through many changes as I learnt the skills needed to refine my ability to write. Lisa liked the story but wanted to know more about the girl. I took the short story into work and showed it to a friend I trusted. In the last paragraph the twist is revealed and the reader discovers that she’s a vampire. I wrote a story about a girl catching the last bus home. I had some success with writing nonfiction articles about researching my Readman family roots in Whitby, North YorkshireĪfter suffering a couple of rejections with the nonfiction, I decided to turn my hand to writing short stories. #MYPUBLISHER REVIEWS HOW TO#When I first wrote the novel back in 2005 I had no idea how to write a book. Seeking the Dark is a vampire story with a twist. I categorise my writing as Gothic Crime.Ģ) What was your inspiration behind Seeking the Dark book? It’s just finding the right place to market my books, which has me stumped as it isn’t quite horror and not quite a crime novel. Of course, die-hard horror fans might find my work more cosy horror/crime rather than what they are looking for, but I feel there’s a market for my kind of work. Of course I do add a bit more bite to my tales as and when they need it, but I don’t overdo it or add it for an unnecessary shock element. I hope I’ve recreated their chilling tension in my stories too. It’s the simplicity of how the Victorians told their dark tales without relying on the use of blood, guts and gore which I love most. I would class myself as a horror writer, or at least, the darker shade of pale because of my love of Victorian ghost stories. #MYPUBLISHER REVIEWS SERIES#Paula’s answers to a series of questions are posted below.ġ) What type of books or genre do you write? In other pre-Christmas news, I was interviewed by Melanie at Grab The Lapels in one of her regular Meet the Author posts. I hope including it encourages more people to pick it up. This is such an individual book, both saddening and uplifting to read and it deserves a really wide audience. This is a book that will have slipped under many people’s radar as it isn’t published by a mainstream publisher and I think that is a great shame because I don’t think I have ever read a book that so clearly describes life from the point of view of a child or captures so brilliantly the joy and pain of being a seven-year-old that doesn’t quite fit in. Thank you so much to Julie Morris at A Little Book Problem who recommends my novel and says: There are 50 posts in total for 2021 and currently there’s over 110 individual publications listed including This Much Huxley Knows. Eggman then sends Sonic (and the Chaos Emeralds) plummeting towards the surface to his doom but if past games have any indication, Sonic will unrealistically survive this fall. After a premature awakening, Dark Gaia can't sustain his own weight and collapses and spreads across the planet. Eggman then uses that energy into a cannon to literally shatter the planet to awaken Dark Gaia, basically like this god of darkness, from the Earth's core. Eggman tricks Sonic into a stasis field and drains the Emeralds of their energy, while also somehow turning Sonic into the Werehog. When Eggman grabs Sonic, Sonic turns Super in the first 30 seconds of the game and destroys his armada. You start off in this incredibly epic opening on an armada of ships on the edge of space, Sonic facing of against tons of robots, then Eggman appears in a mech. The story as well as the cutscenes is hands down the best in the entire series. So are you ready? Let's Begin!īefore I go into the differences between the game, let's talk about the story. #Sonic unleashed ps2 gameplay ps3#Also, so I'm not steadily being redundant by saying "Sonic Unleashed PS2/Wii" and "Sonic Unleashed PS3/Xbox 360" over and over again, I'm simply just going to call them the PS3 version and the PS2 version. Instead of doing individual reviews of each game, I decided to just compare each version while still reviewing each game at the same time. Both versions are really good and one is fantastic. Sonic Unleashed has not been received by critics very well, but let just say how WRONG they are. Gameplay, levels, cities, even the menu system, and so much more. We're not talking about Super Mario 64 and SM64 DS different, we're talking SM64 and Super Mario Sunshine different! The only thing these games have in common is the story, music, locations, bosses, and similar gimmicks. Despite having the same name, they are 2 entirely different games. For those who are not familiar, they are 2 different versions of Sonic Unleashed, one on the PS2/Wii and one on the PS3/Xbox 360. Forces comes out literally tomorrow, and I'm ecstatic! And just today I've finished my 10 game Sonic marathon. |
